    On a bit of a tangent, I wonder why teachers think they need a union in case they get sued? It looks like private insuranc is available through folks like the Association of American Educators? www.aaeteachers.org

    Not a tangent in my house. A family member new to the world of teaching has so far dodged the Union's constant solicitation on account of not seeing the value. Together, we've pushed another family to at least check out the cost difference in self insurance vis-a-vis the tangible benefits of the union, which from my vantage point are not great!
